Chanel Cruise collection hits France!

The Chanel cruise shows are indeed legendary. Oh to be front row! So when models took to the catwalk on the Riviera to showcase the designs, the world's press were ready and waiting!

"Too much, may not be enough." According to Karl after the show which not only included one of the most expensive hotels as a location, but real diamonds, jewels and pearls, he also flew in some of the world's top models and F-row full timers. Not enough? Karl love, some of us can't afford topshop right now! While Chanel shows are always legendary, the cruise shows are really a chance to Lagerfeld to let loose and boy does he!

I'm always a bit confused by Cruise. I'm not sure if it's confused or just jealous because I don't get to travel. (damn college) But, this was almost a mash up of pieces which made me think of other designers. (more about that later) Here was a collection into three sections. The stand out pieces, the lacklustre and the Chanel fall back pieces which appear in each collection. The prime example of that would be the boxy jacket over the swimsuit above.

The side split seems intent on appearing in a fair few collections (and no doubt the high street later on in the season) but the white skirt/dress above made me think of Peter Pilotto's SS11 collection. Although his was blue not white. It's almost identical. It's a hard collection to write about given that so much of it was uninspiring. But then, I didn't like last year's cruise collection either. There were a few pieces which screamed 'all money no taste' like cropped things and denim miniskirts. Not what you would expect from Chanel.

Still I can see the celebrities lining up to be the first to wear that gorgeous black dress above with the jewel pieces in the neckline. Love it. However, WTF is on the model's feet? Styleite.com pointed this out as well. There were some seriously ugly shoes on the catwalk. The three pieces above show the three stages of the collection. The grey dress is typical Chanel. Romantic and beautiful, the second piece, the black dress, is stand out. Then the last one is just, lacklustre. Boring and could belong to any brand.

Again, I could only think of Peter Pilotto when I saw the dress on the far right. The twisted neckline again reminds me of his maxi dresses for SS11. While the print is more Chanel then PP. (Which is how it should be) The black and white dress is dated in a bad way. More 80's then then anything and not in a good way. It looks like a dodgy vintage number.

Still though, I am feeling the pastel lemon shade for this summer. I've been drawn to clothing of that color all month. It's light enough to scream Spring but the problem with pastel colors is : it can be a little childish. There I said it! You have to be careful to get the right shade for you (which is if your white blonde like I am, then stay clear of putting lemon/yellow near your hair as it will make your hair seem tobacco stained) and be wary of what item of clothing you wear. (pastel colored jeans can sometimes appear cheap)
Either way, COS, Primark and Zara are all over yellow from acid to pastel for this season. I would love to be able to join in, but as a blonde, I am going to stick to yellow cut off jeans! (long story)

Either way, make of it what you will, this is Chanel and I'm sure it will be a great success. The cruise collections are built almost as seperate pieces which can fit into any outfit and are wearable with many other pieces and given that Cruise stay in stores longer then any other collections, it will be worth noting how long this one stays around for.
