Akinwunmi Ambode of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been affirmed as the executive governor of Lagos state by the state governorship election tribunal sitting in Ikeja. The tribunal on Wednesday, July 1, dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), candidate, Jimi Agbaje, against Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on the grounds that the petition was incompetent, PM News reports.
Ambode of the APC was declared winner of the April 11 election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after polling 811,994 votes, while the Jimi Agbaje of the PDP, came second with 659,788 votes.
The PDP however, rejected the result on the ground of what it called “the controversial” circumstances within which the election was conducted”.
